“Hilda and Katie”
Discovery on the Beach

Hilda was my best friend’s mom.  She was very generous, inviting me with their family to their vacation home on Cape Cod many times throughout my childhood years.  She also happened to be an artist and I learned a great many things from her.  She showed me how she put together a painting; she introduced me to the art of Cape artists Ralph and Martha Cahoon.  I even bought my first set of acrylic paints on one of those trips to the Cape.  Thirty five years later, I am an artist, and I had the pleasure of bringing Hilda (age 94) along with my 11 yr old daughter Katie to Cape Cod to attend the Cahoon Museum opening in which I had a painting.  I caught them together on the beach, as  Hilda was identifying a shell for Katie.

My daughter Jill is 3 years old in this portrait.   The hem on the dress is torn.  She was a very busy and fun girl, as she is still today.
