Winter Farm

We lived on the farm for seven years early in our first years of marriage. The winters were so very cold, dangerously cold, yet had a beauty all their own. This painting captures the stark beauty and quiet resilience of Iowa winters. The red farmhouse and barns stand against the snowy landscape, their warmth and shelter contrasted with the biting cold of the season. Cows huddle together in the barnyard, the trees bare and silhouetted under the pale winter sun. It’s a scene of both hardship and deep-rooted charm; the kind of winter that defines country living.

Tom’s Winter Mail Run
One of my favorite memories is of Tom, running the 150 feet to fetch the mail in –40°F weather, wearing nothing but his bathrobe and boots. I left him out of the painting.
